No.. im not in europe. Its syracuse in upstate new york. One of the collegetown around Ithaca.
Its about an hour and half drive from my town and my friends decided that we should catch the state fair before it closes for the season.

The fair itself reminds me of a gigantic funfair. I swear I've packed a few extra pound from the event itself.  Finding something that isnt heavily sweeten or deep fried was such a challenge so I just gave in :D

Went bar hopping with my friends and was the only one again having trouble with bartenders serving me alcoholic drinks. Same problem back in Ithaca. Its not like I want to pretend im all 18 again but it is such a chore having to bring my passport just to have a drink. They dont even accept IC for some weird reason
 -_-"

On our way back, we drove thru the wine trails of the cayuga lake. There's probably 30-40 vineyards along the stretch that runs through the highway besides the lake. It was a lovely day with the perfect sun with ocean blue skies for the otherwise lousy summer we had so far. Wine in general are relatively cheap here ...roughly 8-10 dollars with a slight premium for vintage.  It was a perfect excuse for grabbing a couple of bottle of wine with some help and not to forget the preserves from the local harvest which are irresistably yummy...

So one of my housemate from hell girlfriend is visiting him for 2 weeks which I am totally cool. I figured with her presence  the guys would be neatier. The stains in the tub are no longer visible and dishes are cleaned and they even borrowed a vaccum from one of their brethens in the neighbourhood to clear up all their smoking ashes.

Just when I think how happy I could enjoy this short live moment, it shattered to pieces 4 days ago when the couple started to quarrel almost everyday afternoon and at night. Even with my door closed and itunes blasted, I could still hear muffled voices shouting at each other and door slamming actions and whenever I experienced that, I will wake abruptly the next morning by the voices of their moaning and bedframe wall knocking noises. I kid you not.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Ithaca is just another collegetown.
All the fratboys are out of town for their summer break so its quieter than it really should be.
Its a nice setup. The town is quaint. The summer view of the college is amazing and weather is perfect. Summer is finally heating up but it caps around 24 degrees.

Its back to living with the basics. No TV, no fancy malls.
Lots of nature, waterfall and gorges around the area to explore.
Its so sweet sometimes in the morning to see young college boys kissing their partner shyly in the morning when they leave for school.

Anyway just like Wollongong. I know I will miss this place when Im done :)
Going to Buffalo and Niagara falls tomorrow! Woot

The postgrad experience so far has been enriching. For those who knows me better, I'm usually a individual contributor than a party planner with the exception when I'm tipsy. :D
So far alot of my buttons has been pushed and I'm happy that my comfort zone is expanding.
Some folks argued that a mba program is about networking. Indeed it is a critical skillset that is imparted to the students whether they like it or not. I remember I didnt like it initially when I was thrown into my first networking event. I was cringing and wanted to throw my namecard onto the reception desk's and plan my escape route. The need to have that skill slowly seeped in after I understand there are stories to be shared and so much possiblities if only you knew how to ask.

However there are more to the program besides that. I feel that a big part of mba besides the academic is team integration of cultural diversity. Unlike college, it was after the first week I realized its almost impossible alone to do homework, case studies and readings while having the need to attend seminars, networking sessions and professional development at the same time. After being bombarded by 6 hrs of lecture daily, you still gotta look fresh in your business suit for reception dinners and networking events in the evening and then is expected by lecturers to have your readings done the next morning. Throw in a couple of projects, presentations and quizs, you have a recipe for disaster. Sleep is definitely overrated :-D

Having my one week break before the crazy schedule starts again. Will be leaving for Cornell next monday.
All the best to friends who will be having a new chapter in their life. I will be thinking about you :-)

In short for Singapore Body Building Federation and no...i'm not a muscle worshipper.

I've received an invite earlier during the week and thought it might It was one of those really random things to do on a Sunday afternoon so I obliged.
I had little expectations since I was never a gym rat bunny nor associate myself anywhere close to the BB culture.
Honestly it was interesting to see for the first 1/2 hour until all that muscle squeezing and fake tan gets into me..that my mind drifted off to observe other things.

1)I find it difficult to come to terms with what the president of the federation said that BB is about sacrificing things to have a healthy diet and lifestyle. I mean..how healthy exactly is 20 eggs in the morning and nothing else besides protein shakes and creatine suppliments for the competing folks @.@".

2)I think there should be a high correlation between size of body builders and size of their ego. There were so much aggression in the crowd especially from those bigger boys that while rooting for their mates on stage, they thrash yelled at the other competitors and even other audience at times. It was so rednecky. [info]faithpig  any comments on that? :D

The only highlight was the various category stand down where the competitors have their freeplay to strut their stuff to the audience. You'll see how all the beefy man acting like little bitches constantly trying to outdo and pose infront of each other. Tyra Banks should be invited for such events to judge them lol.
Huge cravings for french fries and ice-cream madly after the competition.

On the side note.. Pink Dot anyone? :)

After 3 seasons of BGT, Andrew Johnston's rendition of the requiem is still my all time favourate. Not a big fan of religious singing but listening to him does create a sense of serenity everytime.

On a sidenote, just managed to get copies of Dante Cove (I know im 3 seasons late).
Ultra gay..lol

[Current Mood | sleepy]

Woke up today with terrible headache after 3 nightmares in a a row last night breaking my sleeping chain. The dreams was all so vivid that I broke sweat in my dreams which I never did before

1) Courtroom drama that I poisoned someone ( Woke up when the prosecutor pointed his finger at me saying I did it)
2) Courtroom drama again that I murdered someone random. ( Woke up after the judge slammed the gravel pronouncing the guilty verdict and after a couple minutes when I sat up from my bed I still thought it had actually happened)
3) Dissection of a corpse... think "Saw".. how morbid.

Was up late doing the e-Cornell CBT and watching Boston legal and House......
*Remind meself not to do that ever again. *

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Was hunting for a financial calculator yesterday for my class and I was so wrong thinking that its just going cost another 30-40 dollars like those scientic ones. 178 dollars for the RPN function which I am struggling to get use to.
2 X 3 is keyed in as 2 = 3 X. LOL Im gonna have so much fun in this.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Will be purchasing my lappie today hopefully. Decided finally on Vaio Z after weeks of searching.

Fujitsu only model I like doesnt come with an independent video card. The ones that do looks like lenovo.
Lenovo's display sets already look like a 2nd hand laptops.
HP/Compaq current series specs n looks are great but the mousepad is almost impossible to use for a extended period. The glossy coat actually increases friction when I tried sliding + the lappies are heavier.
Dell is definitely worth the money if weight and design is not a concern. Still quite bulky for their slim models.
Asus specs m weight  comes close but battery life for the 13.3 n 14.1 inch is disappointing and those models come with a leather design for arm rest... so taitai.
No acer, No macs :D

In terms of price I guess Im forking out an additional 400+ for the Vaio Z in terms of specs but I think its worth on a longer run. Weights only 1.47kg with battery compared to the general 1.8~2.4kgs of similar spec, longer battery life (which Im still skeptical), better imaging quality and a more compact design. Thanks for all the feedback. It was fun exploring all the options that was received although I probably pissed the sales folks in Harvey Norman and Courts for repeatedly window shopping :-D

Called up singtel to enquire about the option of suspending the internet account.
While I still have to honour the difference in the subscription period that I've missed upon re-activitation which was what I had in mind, I have to pay roughly 15 bucks more on top of my fees that will still be incurred for those months that I suspended????
The operator that I spoke to was less than empathizing with the situation and added a really bimbotic comment that " Oh by the way, you can only do this for a maximum of 3 months per working year"
WHO IN THE RIGHT MIND WOULD DO THAT?

The contractual binding is really not making any sense. When I opt to be contract free they had someone to call me to inform me about raising my subscription fees. When I opt to take up the contract they become totally inflexible.
I so need to do a memento tatoo on myself right now!

The word "professionalism" was screaming thru my head violently while doing the interview I had last week. Hypothetically speaking, it was one of those interviews that you had mortaged your house and had paid your way thru and had wished that the folks were paying the right attention to you yet they didnt.
I felt totally unjust. Firstly I did not understand why the receptionists were mutual calls to each other to juggle me around the offices when my sole purpose was the interview with the Dean.
Secondly, I had this annoying feeling that no one else was prepared for the session except me. I had alot going on the couple of days before to make the audience an impressive one. While the interim Dean was looking more than distracted flipping thru my submission and made enquiries on stuff that wasnt even related,  I cringed beneath at some point that I thought I went horribly wrong. I couldnt even piece up my story because some of our conversation were prematurely terminated.
It was quite disheartening honestly to go thru that without knowing how much I wanted it and that wasnt the end of the drama.
When I was about to go, one of the administration ladies came with 2 piece of blank paper and required me to write an 300 word essay in 15 mins to complete the authencity of my submission. She then read out aloofly the 2 topics that I could work on and hastily left the conference room. Knowing that I was coming and had to do that... the very least she could have done was have it printed...tsk.
Anyway in a nutshell it was a 15 turned 50 mins essay and she never came back to me after she first left. I had to go around asking for her only to realized she had left for a meeting and relayed the msg that I could go after I procured.

The whole administration left a pretty bad after taste but it's all cleared up when I've received another mail about the acceptance.
Screw the administration. That wasnt what I was going for.
New York beckons in a couple of months~
I can't even explain the rush that is palpating thru my veins.
All the things that I've staked since last year to pave the way is reaping the intended results.
Against the odds of uncertainties, I'm really gald that I made it.
Indeed a huge stone lifted off my back.
Yay! Yay! Yay!

Now to pray for the obnoxious US exchange rate to go down.

"If only perception can be so easily influenced there will be no more conflicts"
Hmm now I can understand Francois Sagat's obsession with Israeli. :-D

After a long hiatus... I'm finally feeling a little at ease.
There was a period of time that I felt a little loserish. The whole process took longer than it should have and its not really helping with family n friends adding on to that pressure whenever we talk abt it.
It was draining my confidence like a bloody leech. The first attempt was less than encouraging and that almost axed my head off.

Honestly speaking the 2nd attempt wasnt that impressive when I was done on Tuesday.  I almost forgo the whole idea and was considering the alternatives already even though I send it the result anyway. I could hardly contain my joy when I received a call yesterday from the college.

One more hurdle before reaching the other resolution for this year. Fingers crossed!
Focus!
